Mitton’s WA/NT a Holiday

After around a three year lead in… The time has finally come. Ready or not, here we go!!!!!

On 7th April, we’re sending my parents off with our camper trailer and car to drive the Nullarbor!  With my wife Steph, and kids, Charlotte (8), Jake (6) and Tilly (3), we’ll be flying in and meeting them in Esperance on Anzac day – 25 April (Go Bombers).  I’ve never stepped foot in WA.  All I hear about it is wonderful and amazing. Last time in was in the NT, I was 8.  Hence our desire to get to both these places.

Without being deliberate about chiselling out time in life to spend together as a family, to explore parts of this amazing country, escape the usual fast-paced rhythm of life, slow down and see the great outdoors, life with three young kids might just slip by.  Before long, we’d have adult kids and the opportunity would have been lost.  Everyone says you only get one shot at your kids being young. You can’t re-live those years.

Too many people let those times slip by and later in life when they feel they can back away from their other commitments and spend time with their family, it’s too late – the kids are out living their own lives.  Classic song by Harry Chaplin in 1974, then later redone by Guns N Roses in the 90s, ‘Cats In The Cradle’ comes to mind.

Maybe the kids are too young, maybe we’re not experienced enough campers, maybe it’s not long enough to cover such a large area, maybe things will go wrong.  I could go on. We’ve thought of every reason ‘why not’.  But, instead of ‘why not’… Steph’s sister Jess (travel partners with their family for part of the way) challenged us to alter our thinking and ask… how can we make it happen?!?

In planning for the trip, communicating it with clients, friends and family… I’ve been overwhelmed by the genuine interest and encouragement, from your own stories, those who did it as parents, as kids, those who regretted not doing it.  For this, I want to say thank you.  Thanks for being excited for us – even if you think we’re a little (or a lot) crazy.

Here is a map of our trip and my family ready to go!!

We’re going to provide a weekly (approx.) picture(s) and blurb about what we’re up to. If you’d like to follow along, we’ll have a page on our website dedicated to this and be sending out some email reminders if you are interested. You can opt out of this at any time.

Thanks again and we’ll see you on the flip side in early July!

Warm Regards,

Scott Mitton
